India and Bangladesh will jointly campaign to make the Sundarbans one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
India and Bangladesh will jointly campaign to make the Sundarbans one of the seven natural wonders of the world. “Many clubs, NGOs, citizens’ bodies and other organisations in Bangladesh are campaigning to get people to vote online, through phone or SMS for the Sundarbans. But this hasn’t caught on in India. Hence, this appeal to India to launch a campaign here as well,” said Bangladesh environment minister Hasan Mehmood, who was in Kolkata to attend a joint workshop on the Sunderbans. His Indian counterpart, Jairam Ramesh, has promised to do his bit. “If Sundarbans makes it, tourism will receive a huge boost and funds will flow in for conservation and wildlife protection,” said Ramesh. Sundarbans, according to the official contest website (new7wonders.com), is at No 20 in the list. Voting will be on till next year and winners would be decided on 11 November next year.
