The Hippie was followed by the Yuppie and there’s a Mappie to mother them now. To be a Mappie, you must be a senior citizen with the time and money to indulge in life’s finer things. For sharper definition, a Mappie is a new social group of ‘mature, affluent and pioneering people’ who are in their 50s and 60s. Amelia Adamo, editor of Sweden’s M magazine, targeted at Mappies, believes people in this group refuse to slow down with age. They embrace new technology, love to travel and want to try new things in life. Mappie idols are Mick Jagger and Richard Branson.
