In a significant stride toward tackling unemployment and enhancing employability, the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) has announced a landmark collaboration with 20 industries and industry associations, aiming to create 50,000 job opportunities. This partnership, unveiled at the 2024 Chief Executive Officers (CxO) Meet, marks a pivotal moment in Punjab’s skill development and employment generation efforts.
Aman Arora, Punjab’s Minister of Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training, digitally inaugurated 23 new training centers, adding 750 candidates statewide. Arora emphasized the importance of skill development for the state’s future, urging industries to join hands with the government to empower the youth with critical skills that align with evolving market demands.
The event saw the signing of MoUs with leading industry bodies such as the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), alongside associations from major industrial hubs like Mohali, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. These agreements will help bridge the gap between industry needs and the skill sets of Punjab’s youth.
The minister also felicitated 100 winners of the World Skills Competition, recognizing their achievements in various trades and professions, further underscoring the state’s commitment to fostering talent.
Principal Secretary of Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training, Mrs. Jaspreet Talwar, highlighted that the meet was designed to foster dialogue between key stakeholders. She stressed the importance of aligning skill development programs with industry requirements to ensure that Punjab’s workforce remains competitive.
A panel discussion, featuring prominent industry leaders and policymakers, focused on how best to align youth with the opportunities of the future. Discussions touched upon emerging trends in employment and the growing need for specialized skills. PSDM Mission Director Amrit Singh expressed optimism about the event’s outcomes, anticipating that these collaborations would lead to long-term job creation and the advancement of Punjab’s skill ecosystem under the DDUGKY initiative.
With continued collaboration between the government, industry, and educational institutions, Punjab is positioning itself as a key player in India’s drive for a skilled and employable workforce.
