A worthy Android phone but a disappointing camera
This is a very well made phone, and you can almost see the effort that has gone into designing it.
The display on its 12.7 cm (5 inch) screen is powered by the Bravia digital signal processing engine, which makes it clear and sharp. But as soon as I tried to play a movie, I was shocked because its sound was muffled. This happened because there is only one speaker and it is placed where I usually put my thumb while holding the phone. However, it sounds great with headphones.
It has a quad core processor with 2 GB RAM, which is great for heavy users like me. I can multitask without affecting the phone’s speed, although there are a few glitches. It no longer has Sony’s version of Timescape, and there are fewer native apps.
Such a powerful phone, with such a bright screen, consumes a lot of power. That’s why it has a ‘Stamina’ mode, in which the phone switches off wireless connectivity for apps, giving you additional battery time.
Xperia Z is NFC-ready. If you tap it behind the remote control unit of a new model Sony TV, the two can actually share the same screen display. This feature has several possibilities. Not only can you play the TV from your phone, the TV can also display pictures and videos shot by the phone’s 13.3 megapixel camera. However, I think its picture quality could have been better.
All connectors of the phone are covered by flaps to protect them from dust and water.
I tend to drop my phones a lot. If that is your problem as well, you’ll love this phone. It looks trendy and is very tough. It is well protected from dust and water, so using it outdoors is not a worry. And its quad core processor just enhances the whole experience. All said, Sony still needs to work on that camera.
