When I saw the ad for this one, I had to check out this camera. After all, who other than Samsung will think of 2 LCD screens for a camera—one each at the back and the front of the camera.
So why do you need a screen on the front? People like to click pictures of themselves. They do it with their cellphones and regular cameras too. That’s where Samsung STS500 comes in, with a screen on the front of the camera as well. It also makes it interesting for kids to get their picture clicked. Remember when we were young, the photographer would tell us that a parrot would come out of his lens and we should keep looking at it? This screen gets the kids to look at the camera. But it has a few snags. The time interval between the click and image capture is too much, which leads to blurred images. Its gesture interface lets you draw a cross on the image to delete it, and draw a circle to rotate it. It’s fancy, but a bit unresponsive. Samsung claims its face recognition technology remembers the faces you shoot most often, and gives them priority on focus over others. I was not able to test this. I love the second screen, but am not sure if I will want to use this as my main camera. Maybe only for novelty.
