Named after a very noble tree, this phone lets you go green without sacrificing features.
I know many people who don’t own a cell phone because they believe these are bad for the environment. Phone companies have been trying to address these concerns by doing things like using recycled plastics and reducing the phone’s packaging material. In this endeavour comes the Elm, Sony Ericsson’s green phone. It is now available at select stores across the country. Featuring a 5 megapixel camera, GPS navigation and integrated social network applications, this is a phone with a green heart and is also ready for today’s generation. Using recycled plastics, water-based paints, only an electronic manual (no paper, saving 13,000 trees), a green charger that consumes less than 30 miliwatts of power on standby, and headsets that use recycled plastics only—this PVC-free device is greener than most other phones. Besides the usual, it has three green applications: Walk Mate, Eco Mate and Eco Calculator, which show you the amount of CO2 saved because you chose to walk rather than drive, and how your lifestyle choices affect your carbon footprint. This Edge-enabled, Wi-Fi phone has a talk time of 10 hours and standby of about 430 hours. Weighing a cool 90 gm, this is a candy bar you will fall in love with at first sight.
