This Chinese year of the tiger, coins just got friendlier, kinder and smilier in Singapore. The Lunar Tiger Collection designed by the Singapore Mint has this mega-carnivore looking a lot less predatory.
This Chinese year of the tiger, coins just got friendlier, kinder and smilier in Singapore. The Lunar Tiger Collection designed by the Singapore Mint has this mega-carnivore looking a lot less predatory. This is quite unlike 1998 and 1986, preceding years of the tiger. A report in China Post quotes the director of the Singapore Mint, who says, “Traditionally tigers are depicted as fierce creatures…but since we are emerging from a recession…people might not like it.” So now they’re using a design by artist Tan Seng Yong that has a family of the great cats ‘leaping forward harmoniously and leaving their problems behind.’ Meanwhile here in India, the back of our ten rupee note remains recession-unaffected. There’s still a Bengal tiger sitting there, baring its teeth.
