If your child is being taught by a teacher who belongs to a union, then he has a valid excuse for low marks.
If your child is being taught by a teacher who belongs to a union, then he has a valid excuse for low marks. Researchers Geeta Kingdon of London University and Francis Teal of Oxford University have found that students of unionised teachers (in the 186 certified Indian schools they surveyed)performed 0.23 standard deviations lower than students taught by non-union teachers. However, the negative effect of union membership was lower in the Left-leaning Kerala and West Bengal. But, most damningly, they extrapolated that while teacher credentials such as an MA, training, or 1st division in their secondary exam each helped students achieve more, the credentials were useless in unionised schools. The researchers concluded that ‘teachers in unions earn more, but perform worse’.
