Nikon D7100

A sharp shooter that is fast, versatile and feels nice and solid in your hand

The moment you take it out of the box, you will feel as if you are holding a Nikon D600, but on close scrutiny you will notice there is a Scene Mode on its dial, dual microphones next to its hotshoe, slight change in the control buttons, and it takes a DX format lens. The D7100 also takes two SD cards, and you can programme them to overflow, copy from one another, or assign one for RAW files and one for JPEGs.

The camera comes with a 24.1 megapixel sensor, an EXSPEED 3 processor, and has a nice and sharp 3.2 inch TFT LCD. There are also several ports, from an additional battery/grip port at the bottom, a GPS unit extender, a USB port, to an HDMI port. The D7100 supports lenses with a maximum aperture of f/8 and has 51-point AF system for faster auto focus.

In case you like fast and continuous captures, you would love the 6 frames per second ‘continuous shooting’ mode on the camera. And for video shooting, the camera supports up to 1920×1080/60i movies. It also has a new remote controller—the WR1.

The viewfinder is sharp and offers approximately 100 per cent frame coverage. There is also a function button, like the one in D600, on the right side under the lens that you can allocate any function, so that you get to your settings faster.

The D7100 replaces the D7000 after a long gap, and this new DSLR is a sharp shooter that is fast, versatile and feels nice and solid in your hand.

The D7100 is available as ‘Body Only’, or with 2 Kit Lens options. My suggestion: buy the body separately, and buy lenses that are more suitable to the kind of shooting you will be doing. But in case you are confused, the D7100 with the 18-105 f/3.5-5.6 lens is a good option.
