Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday celebrated a decade of the ambitious Digital India initiative, which was launched to bridge the digital divide and empower citizens through technology. Reflecting on its impact, he said the journey had touched “countless lives,” silencing sceptics and mainstreaming digital payments across everyday life.
Posting on X, Modi wrote: “Today is a historic day as we mark #10YearsOfDigitalIndia! Ten years ago, Digital India began as an initiative to transform our nation into a digitally empowered and technologically advanced society. A decade later, we stand witness to a journey that has touched countless lives and ushered in a new era of empowerment.”
He credited the collective resolve of 140 crore Indians for India’s strides in digital payments and noted the initiative’s wide-ranging impact on sectors such as health and education.
The Prime Minister also shared a thread highlighting what he described as “a glimpse of the transformation and its scale”:

According to the Digital India website, the flagship programme, launched on July 1, 2015, has been “improving the lives of all citizens through the digital delivery of services, expanding the digital economy and employment opportunities”.
It also said that Digital India programme has demonstrated a consistent upward growth trajectory, achieving numerous milestones and flagship initiatives. “These accomplishments span a wide array of sectors, including developing broadband highways, universal access to mobile connectivity, public internet access programmes and digital governance,” the website said.
The programme had envisages driving innovation, good governance, bridging the digital divide, supporting digital entrepreneurship, capacity building and skilling development, among others connecting sectors ranging from payments and healthcare and agriculture to manufacturing.
