Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee has asked Bengal’s ‘good’ (read: fair and apolitical) police officers to go on leave. The reason: they could be forced by the CPM to register false cases against the Trinamool in the run-up to the Assembly election next year. Addressing a party convention in Howrah, Mamata said, “When we come to power, we’ll regularise such leaves and pay full salaries for the entire period.” Many IPS and IAS officers have opted for deputations out of Bengal in view of the winds of change sweeping through this state.
