Christopher Andersen’s new biography of Mick Jagger (Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger) lends credence to the notion that rock stars make their own rules and, by and large, have fun doing it. Anderson, who earlier wrote biographies of stars like Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, has left no secret unearthed about Mick in his latest book.
Let’s start with the most shocking revelation. Anderson says that Jagger had an affair with another rock legend, David Bowie, in the 1970s. “It was the glitter era, and everybody wanted to be part of the bisexual revolution,” singer Chuckie Starr revealed to the author. Another singer, Ava Cherry told the author that though there were many times she was in bed with the two rockstars, she often just watched them have sex. The book also alleges that Bowie and Jagger organised orgies and were a ‘sexual tag team’.
Another maybe not-so-shocking disclosure is about Jagger sleeping with ‘thousands’ of women, one of them being actress Angelina Jolie after she starred in the Rolling Stones video Anybody Seen My Baby. Jagger supposedly said this about Jolie: “She scares me a little—I like that.”’ Their on-off affair lasted two years. But one of Jagger’s serious romances was with Carla Bruni (now Sarkozy). He stole her from his friend Eric Clapton and holidayed with her a day after his wife, Jerry, gave birth to their third child. After Jerry put her foot down, Jagger called off the relationship with Bruni, who has been quoted as saying, “I thought I’d never get over it. I used to wake up every morning in despair.”
Jagger reportedly also visited a therapist for his sex addiction, but it didn’t work. Anderson told a TV talk show this week, “Jerry Hall proclaimed after putting up with his infidelity for 23 years that he was a sex addict, and she asked him to get help. Keith [Richards] asked him to get help, and they were thrilled when he sought help from a sex therapist. Until he seduced the sex therapist.” And this by a man once described as ‘ugly’.
