A West Delhi hospital has hired bouncers to manage angry relatives of patients.
After several blows and a few hits with hockey sticks, the management of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in West Delhi has hired bouncers—a burlier and more efficient version of the pot-bellied guards often spotted at entrances and gates of hospitals trying to manage angry relatives of patients. The hospital had started hiring bouncers in April after a doctor was attacked by a patient’s friends. The doctor ended up with a broken nose. According to medical superintendent Dr Promila Gupta, such incidents have reduced ever since, as the bouncers are physically imposing yet very polite. While many of the bouncers have worked in five-star hotels, they claim that the hospital job is far more rewarding as it keeps them ‘grounded’. The Delhi government is now looking at hiring bouncers for its other hospitals.
