The expected monsoon shortfall this election year has made Maharashtra MLAs jittery. CM Ashok Chavan’s office is inundated with requests for artificial rain. Experts believe artificial rain will not fill up reservoirs or substantially recharge groundwater. But politicians want the optics of rain. Government sources say the state is considering cloud seeding but how it plans to go about it will be influenced by political factors.
