Recently, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in Thrissur, Kerala, issued an arrest warrant and recalled it in 24 hours. The person against whom the warrant was issued was Mukesh Ambani—chairman and managing director, Reliance Industries—in connection with a case filed by Joseph Makkolil, who had alleged that Reliance had reneged on a promise of special offers to mobile consumers in an advertisement. Though the warrant was recalled, Makkolil emerged victorious, as Reliance finally remitted the Rs 25,000 that Joseph claimed in his complaint. However, though the case was filed in 2006, the payment was made only after the warrant was issued.
