According to retired police officer N Delip Kumar, corrupt government functionaries are best represented by Bakãsura, the mythical demon with an insatiable appetite who ate hundreds of tonnes of food belonging to the poor. Bakãsura is also the title of his book, launched just last week. As head of the Delhi Anti Corruption Bureau, Kumar for the first time used a sting operation to trap corrupt officials. In his book, he places the Bakãsuras of government into two broad categories: netas and babus. He says the kind of Herculean effort put in by Bhim to kill the demon is required in the present day too.
