This is the first reported sighting of the Black Pika on the Indian Subcontinent.
This is the first reported sighting of the Black Pika on the Indian Subcontinent. Closely related to rabbits and hares, the animal was first discovered in the Yunan province of China in 2000. Recently, a WWF-India team sighted it in the West Kameng and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh. WWF-India says the pika resembles the one from China, but this needs to be confirmed genetically. India is home to seven other pika species.
