Punjab Government opens Recruitment for OSD (Litigation) to Strengthen Legal Framework

In a significant step towards enhancing the legal infrastructure for social justice and minority empowerment, the Punjab Government has invited applications for the post of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for Litigation. The position, which falls under the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, presents a unique opportunity for qualified legal professionals to contribute to the state’s efforts in delivering justice to marginalized communities.
Announcing the recruitment, Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur, emphasized the importance of the OSD (Litigation) role in supporting the department’s mission. The recruitment drive aims to attract experienced legal experts to manage litigation matters at the Secretariat level. The application window is open until September 30, 2024, and interested candidates can access detailed information on the official government websites.
To qualify, applicants must possess a first-division LLB degree, with a requirement of having passed Punjabi at the matriculation level. The position offers a fixed salary of Rs. 60,000 per month, with an initial tenure of two years, which can be extended up to five years. Candidates between the ages of 35 and 62, as of the last application date, are eligible to apply. Relevant experience, including at least three years of practice at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, or working within the Legal and Legislative Affairs Department, or as a retired officer from the Punjab Judicial Service, is mandatory.
The recruitment process will be overseen by a dedicated selection committee. Candidates will be evaluated on multiple criteria, including academic qualifications, legal experience, and practical skills, such as drafting replies to writ petitions. This rigorous selection process ensures that the most capable professionals are appointed to the role, reinforcing the government’s commitment to effective legal governance.
Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that the recruitment of an OSD (Litigation) will significantly bolster the state’s legal capabilities, particularly in handling cases related to social justice and minority welfare. Applications should be submitted to the office of the Director of the Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Department in SAS Nagar, Mohali, by the September 30 deadline. This recruitment marks another progressive move by the Punjab Government to ensure legal excellence in its mission to empower vulnerable sections of society.
