Prof. S C Sharma, Director, ICFAI, Business School (IBS), Gurgaon
How does ICFAI Business School (IBS) prepare the young minds of our country for a better tomorrow? What skills does IBS focus on so that students are better prepared for the real world outside their college life?
The entire gamut of teaching-learning process followed at ICFAI Business School (IBS) is student-centric. Extensive use of the case study method connects the classroom deliberations with real life conditions in all walks of life including business and markets. Further, action learning and project based hands-on exposure infuse confidence in the students that they would handle real life challenges with ease and clarity. Additionally, students are prepared in a systematic manner to master communication skills and design presentations that would make a direct and instantaneous impact on the audience.
Besides highly accomplished and versatile faculty having rich industry exposure, top practicing managers share their experience and insights with the students in a variety of situations on a regular basis. These practicing managers, by teaching regular courses, together with the faculty, make all the difference to the credibility of academic delivery.
Further, students learn much more outside the classes through participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, driven by them, through clubs and cell activities. These activities provide the students enormous opportunities to acquire leadership and team building skills.
What is the aim and motto of IBS when it comes to teaching students to be future generation leaders?
The thrust of all endeavors and initiatives implemented at ICFAI Business School is to equip our students with attitudes, competences, and skills which will make them agile and adaptable while managing challenges in real world, both in the business arena and societal landscape. Students are made aware of the critical skills of managing diverse opinions and reaching decisions through consensus building.
How can B-Schools set an example for other educational institutions in the country, when it comes to producing and training students, who can be leaders of tomorrow?
Business Schools have a unique standing amongst all other educational institutions. The focus of student engagement in a B-School is on preparing a professional who is adept at decision making in the midst of all kinds of challenges originating from a host of factors – (a) disruptive technologies (b) continuously changing market conditions, (c) ever transforming cultural ethos in the workplace and (d) regulatory framework – always adjusting oneself to meet aspirations of different segments of society. In such a situation, B-Schools assume the form of a laboratory in which different kinds of experimentation can be conducted and their outcome shared with other educational institutions. Business Schools can and should produce leaders whose judgments are rooted, on one hand, in traditional wisdom and on the other, in a hard business, economic and social realities. And yet they should be capable of ushering in changes to produce a better tomorrow for one and all.
