Dr. UMAKANT DASH Director, IRMA
The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) is a premier institution dedicated to serving the underserved segments of the economy through professional management education and training. Established in 1979 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Verghese Kurien, widely regarded as the Father of the White Revolution in India, IRMA emerged as a response to the growing need for management professionals skilled in addressing complex rural development challenges. With support from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), and both the central and Gujarat state governments, IRMA was conceived to advance the ideals of sustainable, equitable, and ecologically conscious growth.
Rooted in the legacy of Operation Flood, the world’s largest dairy development program spearheaded by NDDB, IRMA’s mission has been to create management professionals capable of working at the grassroots, managing large-scale rural development initiatives, and influencing public policy at national and international levels. The institute offers a transformative learning experience on its 60-acre green campus, where cutting-edge infrastructure meets a commitment to sustainable living.
IRMA’s Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management) [PGDM(RM)] program stands as its flagship offering, pioneering quality education in rural management. Additionally, the Fellow Programme in Management (Rural Management) [FPM(RM)] nurtures research scholars in advanced academic inquiry and creates thought leaders dedicated to addressing rural challenges. These programmes embody IRMA’s mission to blend management principles with rural realities, equipping students with the skills to drive sustainable development and social transformation. With its emphasis on fieldwork, collaboration with government and non-government organizations, and exposure to real-world challenges, IRMA equips its graduates to create lasting impacts.
Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Umakant Dash, IRMA continues to uphold its legacy of excellence while embracing innovation. A seasoned academician and thought leader, Dr. Dash brings a wealth of expertise in rural management and development to the institution. His vision emphasizes strengthening IRMA’s role as a knowledge hub for teaching, training, and research in rural development. He is committed to fostering an environment where students, researchers, and practitioners work collaboratively to create impactful solutions for rural and underserved communities. Dr. Dash’s leadership ensures that IRMA remains at the forefront of rural management education, inspiring a new generation of professionals to champion sustainable development and inclusive growth.
