Hailing from a first-generation family of entrepreneurs with a listed company, Sourab Agarwal’s dream was to make quality cannabis medicines in India. His dream was to undertake a project that would not only benefit people healthwise, but also benefit the planet as a whole.
This journey took a concrete turn in 2014 when he founded HempCann Solutions – a company that sought to take the ancient wisdom of India and turn it into a versatile contempora ry solution. After finishing his education from Nottingham University, UK, Agarwal decided to devote himself to the cannabis idea full time. HempCann was a pioneering solution in the country.
Working from Bhubaneswar, Agarwal built a countrywide team of professionals to take the message of holistic healing and cannabis to everyone. Today, with his Ayurveda brand Vedi, the idea of a greener and HempCann: Towards a greener and healthier world cleaner health regimen has benefitted over 6,000 people.
Talking about his endeavour, Agarwal says, “The pain point I wanted to resolve was the unavailability of quality natural or herbal medicines, especially cannabis medicines. Everyone should have access to a medicine that is safe and effective.” This simple idea became the cornerstone of the mission of HempCann and Vedi.
It is well known now that the cannabis movement is gaining ground around the world, with countries like Canada legalising it completely and the US inching towards total federal legalisation. Sourab’s work in India is a testament to the fact that HempCann’s tryst with history will be undeniable.
Elaborating on his view about the cannabis plant, Agarwal says, “I felt a sense of responsibility for our country. I thought that we should not miss out on such a wonderful medicine. Cannabis is truly medicinal as well as a recreational herb, with myriad industrial uses, along with a very low potential for abuse.”
Agarwal used cannabis therapeutically himself and saw its immense physiological and psychological benefits. “It was clear that there are innumerable positive effects of cannabis. Any substance, be it sugar, should be used with responsibility,” he says. Through HempCann he hopes to change minds via solid research and quality medicines. The adverse opinions surrounding cannabis need to be changed because the world would benefit from it, and that is what Agarwal has set out to do.
His idea took a proper shape when he interacted with the tribal populace of Odisha. Vedi was born in 2016. “Their lives amazed us. They have beautifully internalised the principles of Ayurveda. I found that to be an ideal life,” he says.
Today he feels glad that many companies are embracing the power of cannabis and feels proud to be a part of this young but promising industry. “We are committed to providing quality products at affordable prices. I am relentless in our quest for excellence. I believe everyone should get the best herbal medicines,” he says, envisioning a bright future for the most useful plant in the world.
HempCann Solutions and Vedi are at the cusp of a great dawn. Good health and a greener future – that makes both business and ecological sense.
