India as a destination has no equal, for it offers everything to the traveller. From the mountains to the sea, from tranquil forests to vibrant cities…From heritage to culture, hospitality, adventure, wildlife, wellness and more. Come succumb to the irresistible enchantments of India.
India is vast, varied, and colourful… enchanting, yet unknown. In a post- COVID world, where life has not only returned to normalcy, but is being celebrated with a vengeance, travel has again become an integral part of that celebration. In this celebration, India takes centre stage. However, in the post-pandemic world of travel, while the classic experiences remain, there is a distinct shift towards the outdoors, holidays in tranquil locations where social distancing comes naturally, a desire to immerse oneself in nature, and a deepening interest in wellness and rejuvenation.
One of the main reasons why India is so enchanting is its cultural diversity. Another reason is its natural beauty. From the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas to the golden beaches of Goa, India is a country of stunning contrasts. The backwaters of Kerala, the deserts of Rajasthan, and the lush green forests of Madhya Pradesh are just a few examples of the country’s natural wonders. For those who love the outdoors, India offers a wealth of opportunities for hiking, trekking, and wildlife spotting. Finally, India is an enchanting travel destination because of its people. The locals are friendly, hospitable, and always ready to help. Travellers can learn about local culture and traditions by interacting with them.
One of the unique aspects of India as a travel destination is its eco-friendly and responsible wildlife lodges. These lodges provide a perfect opportunity for travellers to get up close and personal with some of the country’s most exotic wildlife, including tigers, elephants, and monkeys. Some of the most popular wildlife lodges in India are located in the national parks of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where visitors can embark on thrilling safaris and nature walks.
For those seeking adventure activities, India offers a plethora of options. Trekking in the Himalayas, paragliding in Bir Billing, skiing in Auli, rafting in Rishikesh, and bungee jumping in Goa are just a few examples of the many adrenaline-pumping activities available in India.
If you’re looking for a more relaxing getaway, India has a wide range of mountain resorts and wellness breaks to choose from. The hill stations of the Himalayas are popular destinations for those looking to escape the heat of the plains and enjoy a peaceful retreat in the mountains. Many of these resorts offer spa treatments, yoga classes, and meditation sessions to help you unwind and rejuvenate.

I recently visited The Riverwood Forest Retreat – Kanha, a newly opened ecofriendly resort located near a picturesque waterbody in the serene forest setting of Kanha National Park. The property was a comfortable five-hour drive from Jabalpur airport (about the same time from Raipur) and is strategically equidistant from the Kisli and Mukki gates of the national park. Upon arrival, we were pleased to see the stunning décor of our cottage suite, designed with locally sourced materials and large glass windows offering breath-taking views of the surrounding flora and fauna.

of Goa, India is a country of stunning contrasts.
During our stay, we enjoyed a range of bespoke wildlife experiences curated by the property. These included jeep safaris, nature walks, birdwatching and photography tours, cooking in the wild, and village visits. We even had the opportunity to spot a Royal Bengal Tiger, which was truly an unforgettable experience. As a cherry on the top we were taken for a night safari organised by the resort in the nearby Buffer Zone, where we saw a variety of wild animals.
Apart from wildlife, we also spent time at the Mahua Bar, sipping on some delicious cocktails. The library is stocked with books on wildlife and conservation. We also swam in the large pool, and lounged in the jacuzzi. The property also offers wellness programs at its Vankasaspa and we were seriously pampered.
It was heartening to observe that the resort, part of the Waxpol Hotels & Resorts collection, is committed to conservation, sustainability, and the welfare of the locals. The resort has implemented various eco-friendly processes and initiatives, such as using prefabricated insulated bricks to construct the property, green roofs, decentralised sewage treatment plants, and solar panels to power the retreat’s lights. We even visited their butterfly garden and had a delicious meal at the restaurant “Tilao,” overlooking a waterbody.

A true local immersion, we interacted with the locals and learnt about their customs and culture visiting the local village of the Baiga community. It was heartening to see that over 90 percent of the resort’s employees come from the surrounding areas, a true effort at uplifting the local community.
Overall, my stay at The Riverwood Forest Retreat – Kanha was truly an unforgettable experience. The resort’s philosophy of “Sustainable and Modern” really appealed to me, and the Waxpol Group has brought its expertise and partnered with the local community to offer a truly unique experience.

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious and serene stay in the forest setting of Kanha National Park. Personally, I can’t wait to check out one of their other boutique wildlife resorts located in national parks throughout Central and Eastern India.
AQUATERRA ADVENTURES
One of India’s leading adventure tour operators, Aquaterra Adventures offers a variety of safe, responsible and thrilling adventure activities across India and at its flagship property – Atali Ganga – near Rishikesh.
Global trends indicate vacationers are moving towards outdoor and open spaces instead of traditional fourwalled hotel holidays. This is where Aquaterra Adventures comes in. Their property, Atali Ganga, lies 30 kilometres from Rishikesh which is a hub for yoga and meditation, a destination for the Beatles; and the biggest adventure holiday destination in India. Located in the middle of a reserved forest, with more than 300 trees on the property, Atali is the ideal Himalayan experience, and also the quickest one!
Launched in 2012 by Aquaterra Adventures, one of India’s Premier Adventure Tour Operator, Atali Ganga immediately won hearts over and was listed in 2013 by Conde Nast under the 50 Best New Hotels in the World, won the Travellers’ Choice Award from 2013 every year and was listed under the Top 25 Small Hotels in India by TripAdvisor for not only being the leading hotel in Rishikesh but also for offering and delivering one of the best and safest rafting experiences on the Ganga River.
The property is an oasis surrounded by Reserved Forest, and it is a thorough privilege to be so close to nature. If you book, come with the purpose of living in the valley of India’s holiest life force, the Ganga, for the call of the barking deer, or the midnight roar of the leopard; and for that lovely dull ache after a busy day in the great outdoors. 80 percent of the property is built on a hillside, and you will have to walk a series of steps to reach your cottage. If your group includes infants, small kids and infirm elders, do request for cottages closer to the Cafe.
