We are celebrating today a truly distinguished journey – one of technological evolution, relentless passion, perseverance and determination, and most importantly, one of constructive service to the nation.Fifty years ago, BPCL Kochi Refinery started its journey as the eighth petroleum refinery in the country and the fourth in thePublic Sector. On this fine day of 23rd September in the year 1966, the Refinery was dedicated to the nation by the then Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi.
In the last five decades, Kochi Refinery has implemented various projects for its development and growth. It has enhanced its capacity to about four times and presently is at the threshold of becoming one of the largest public sector refineries in the country.
Over the years, I have witnessed the transformation of the Kochi Refinery with both wonder and admiration. The various stages of technical advancement that this refinery has traversed, never ceases to amaze me.
It was in early 2000 when we initiated the process of merging Kochi Refinery with BPCL that I had the opportunity of better understanding this great institution. As Kochi Refinery takes this massive stride towards transforming itself into a world-class refinery with higher complexities, it is my proud privilege to be associated with this game-changing event.
It is a matter of immense pride that we have energised over a million lives in innumerable ways. The Golden Jubilee Celebrations are indeed an extremely encouraging milestone, but what is even more opportune is the pleasant coincidence with our commissioning efforts of the prestigious Integrated Refinery Expansion Project.
I am overwhelmed by the deep sense of commitment, diligence and energy exuded by each and every member of Kochi Refinery. As Jack Welch stated, “No company can win over the long run without energised employees who believe in the mission and understand how to achieve it.” Their sincere hard work, dedication and commitment over the years have transformed this great institution, enabling it to outperform itself and hold the vaunted position it enjoys today.
I wish Kochi Refinery all the very best for all its endeavours. I am confident that in the years to come, Kochi Refinery will redefine the parameters of success, surpassing all horizons and establishing new benchmarks in refinery operations.
