At the ongoing French Open, Rafael Nadal has shown that half a million dollars can weigh a mere 20 gm. As per the Spaniard’s much-publicised tie-up with luxury watch-maker Richard Mille, Nadal has been sporting the RM 027 Tourbillon timepiece at the tournament. The watch costs $535,000 and tips the scales at just 20 gm. Felipe Massa, the Brazilian Formula One driver, also has a contract with the same company. The changes in Nadal—a few months ago he appeared in Gypsy, a raunchy Shakira video—have not gone down too well with his fans. The price of the watch, for example, is the equivalent of more than 10 times what an average Mallorcan earns in a year. Nadal’s fans prefer the old, down-home Rafa who lived simply and enjoyed fishing.
