Scientists have their own funny way to poke at children who usually want to build the biggest snowman of their own. David Cox, researcher at the National Physical Laboratory in the UK, has created the world’s tiniest snowman. Measuring 0.01 millimeters in size, or about one-fifth the width of a human hair, this little guy is not exactly made of snow but rather two micro beads of tin welded together with tiny deposits of platinum. A focused ion beam was used to carve the eyes and smile and to deposit the tiny blob of platinum for the nose. Once this little guy took shape, Cox bathed him in blue light to give this photo a Christmassy effect.
