Adaptation and resilience are the key not only to one’s survival but to one’s thriving and flourishing
Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur, SJ Director, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi
The pace of change now seems to be frightening. We may plan something for implementing it tomorrow, only to realize that the things will have changed completely by then. In the present post-corona period, we seem to be confronted with the larger chaos and confusion than the VUCA, i.e., volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, in social, climatic,geo-political, cultural, economic, and other spheres of life. Hence, now the acronym BANI has replaced VUCA, meaning Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, and Incomprehensible, to describe the present-day challenges. “Shape up or ship out” is the call before even the robust and well-established companies in the given circumstances. Hence, there is the need to revisit, reinvent, reimagine our life and work in an attitude of “thinking out of the box”. Adaptation and resilience are the key not only to one’s survival but to one’s thriving and flourishing, converting challenges into opportunities. It is the fastest and the fittest who can meet the demand of the times. This is what XISS teaches its students, who lead some of the biggest organisations in India and overseas. Joblessness is a serious issue. The world is moving in the direction of forced entrepreneurship. It is going to have control of our life. We at XISS are proactive in analysing this change and hence we train our students in all possible directions be it developing acumen for industry aptness or thriving as a flourishing entrepreneur. The value proposition from XISS is not limited to a flourishing career as professionals in human resource, marketing, finance, and rural management but an all-round development as aconscientious, compassionate, committed, competent and humane with a deep sense of integrity and character in all spheres of life.
