One of the most significant barriers that women entrepreneurs in India are breaking is the notion that entrepreneurship is a man’s domain. Women are increasingly entering traditionally male-dominated sectors like technology, e-commerce, and manufacturing. For example, women like Falguni Nayar of Nykaa, Meena Ganesh of Portea Medical, and Vani Kola of Kalaari Capital have all made a significant impact in their respective industries. While these industry leaders are making significant contributions toward the development of the nation, few women leaders are supporting a greater cause: to serve the people of the nation.
Yamini Jaipuria, Managing Trustee of Cosmo Foundation (Community outreach initiative of Cosmo First Limited) is a social entrepreneur and has been leading the foundation business Foundationwith strategic efforts & supervision, closely monitoring all its programs and activities. She is in charge of administering all charitable activities carried out by Cosmo First Ltd. from its headquarters in New Delhi, as well as at its facilities in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Under her leadership, the team deep dives to engage with communities and identify problems at the local level, offer tactical solutions to address them – some examples include education, sanitation, and the environment – and lead social transformation by allocating resources in the most effective ways. Her support and mentorship have been crucial in helping the foundation come up with plans to aid families affected by COVID-19 all throughout the nation.
For children and youth living in rural areas, access to high-quality education has been a significant barrier. To ensure quality education, Cosmo Foundation offers various initiatives and programs for underprivileged children by offering scholarships. They also enlist senior English faculty, create customised curriculums and build strategies specifically for students who were learning in their native tongue and were, for the most part, first-generation learners.
The foundation’s educational programs comprise computer operation and digital skill building, basic English learning, functional literacy, and life skill, Cosmo Digi Pathshala, Cosmo Udayan Shalini Fellowship and Mentorship Program, Cosmo E-service, and E-resource centre. In the last five years, the foundation under her leadershiph as positively impacted lives of 1 lakh community members,30,720 students, and 85 community-based teachers across all locations. The areas covered include 42 government schools located across 29 villages (20 villages of Karjan and 9 villages of Aurangabad) and 112 extended villages.
While imparting education was a priority agenda, she went ahead to support and felicitate the doctors of our nation with the Medical & Healthcare Excellence Awards through Sitaram Jaipuria Foundation. Giving back to nature where we live, with the Go Green Initiative, the foundation has planted more than 50,000 trees. This was planned to be a step towards establishing a clean, green environment that directly benefits Mother Nature and the next generation.
Moreover, post-covid we have seen the bond between pets & pet parents grow stronger. They are now considered an integral part of our family. As a pet lover, Yamini has always been a great support to Zigly (pet care brand of Cosmo First) since its inception. The brand’s vision is to build India’s largest pet care ecosystem by providing pet families with compassionate, reliable, and competent pet care with a greater purpose to give happy and healthy lives to the furry companions who make our lives whole.
The last two decades witnessed a pool of change in the roles of women in leadership across industries. Women entrepreneurs in India are demonstrating their ability to overcome barriers and succeed in various industries. Their success not only carve their roles and abilities but also paves the way for future generations of women entrepreneurs to shadow their footsteps and make this world a better place to live.
