The Azim Premji University, proposed for Bangalore, will train teachers and non-teaching staff who work in primary, middle and high school institutions.
Last week, the Karnataka Assembly finally passed the Azim Premji University Bill. The University, proposed for Bangalore, will train teachers and non-teaching staff who work in primary, middle and high school institutions. It will offer degree and diploma courses in education management, education policy, elementary education, and technology education. The courses will also be available to teachers already in service so that they can augment their experience. The bill was passed despite ferocious resistance from the Opposition Congress and Janata Dal (Secular), which said the bill would open an onslaught of private universities, whose regulation could be a challenge. They also questioned whether this private institution would be inclusive, as the fee structure has not been announced. The University is set to come up in two phases on government land and architects are expected to unveil its plan soon.
