Two out of five women find themselves addicted to buying bags and shoes.
An online survey of 775 women (between the age group of 20-42) reveals that 76 per cent think about going on a shopping spree as long as they are conscious or awake. Earlier studies conducted on young men concluded that they think about sex every minute. Two out of five women found themselves addicted to buying bags and shoes; more than one in 10 put their focus on accessories, cosmetics or make-up. Those surveyed, on an average, would spend at least 32 per cent of their annual income on clothing or garments. Psychologist Jane Prince of the University of Glamorgan says that people think about things that bring them pleasurable feelings. “But most women who display this level of preoccupation,” she says, “thinking about something once a minute, would project addictive behaviour.” The most disturbing aspect of the survey for men is that half of the women surveyed affirm they prefer shopping to spending time with their partner.
