Finally, there’s a stain on the spotless white kurta of V S Achuthanandan.
Finally, there’s a stain on the spotless white kurta of V S Achuthanandan, Kerala’s opposition leader and octogenarian Communist who has been a constant voice against corruption. He is the first accused in a corruption case filed by the vigilance department. It pertains to allotment of land to a relative when he was Chief Minister. Towards the end of the last Left government’s tenure, TK Soman, an ex-serviceman and relative of Achuthanandan, had been allotted 2.33 acres of land. It is said that this land was initially allotted in 1977 by the then Congress government. Soman was unable to access it due to some legal complications but got it finally cleared by the VS government. VS has denied any corruption and said he’s ready to quit as both opposition leader and MLA. The CPM central leadership has asked him not to take any hasty decision. The VS camp says this is political revenge by those exposed by his fight against corruption.
