A striking electoral narrative is unfolding in Tamil Nadu as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, emerges as a formidable force in its debut election, validating predictions that were once widely dismissed.
On April 29, a pollster’s projection that the TVK could secure between 98 and 120 seats drew ridicule, largely because the party is contesting its first election under a leader with no prior political experience. The estimate was based on exit polls conducted after voting.
However, an earlier prediction by political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor has resurfaced and gained traction amid the current trends.
In an interview with Thanthi TV in March last year, just a year after the formation of the TVK, Kishor spoke confidently about the party’s prospects and Vijay’s leadership.
"Vijay's commitment is to go alone. I don't see that changing. If he goes alone, he stands a very good chance to win Tamil Nadu," Kishor had said, even as his own party, Jan Suraaj, later failed to open its account in the Bihar Assembly elections.

When asked to clarify what he meant by a “good chance,” Kishor made his position explicit. "Good chance to win Tamil Nadu."
Pressed further on whether this implied the TVK could cross the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member assembly, he reiterated his stance. "Yes, absolutely. Keep this video and play it when the results come out in Tamil Nadu," he asserted.
Kishor’s association with Vijay has also drawn attention. On February 25, the TVK chief shared the stage with him in Mahabalipuram during the party’s first anniversary event ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
His presence was widely seen as part of a calculated electoral strategy in a state traditionally dominated by the Dravidian majors, the DMK and the AIADMK.
Despite the optics, Kishor had earlier downplayed any formal role in the party’s campaign.
Known for crafting successful political campaigns across India, Kishor is nonetheless believed to be helping the TVK shape its roadmap for the 2026 elections.
According to trends released by the Election Commission of India, the contest in Tamil Nadu has turned into a high-stakes battle, with the TVK leading in 108 seats. The party is currently ahead of both the ruling DMK-led alliance and the opposition AIADMK-led front.
With 234 seats in the assembly, the majority mark stands at 118, leaving the final outcome poised on a knife’s edge as counting progresses.
