New York’s LaGuardia Airport was closed to incoming flights after a plane arriving from Canada’s Montreal reportedly collided with a ground vehicle on the runway.
The aircraft, identified as an Air Canada Express CRJ-900, struck a fire truck, according to the New York Post.
Several videos of the collision surfaced on social media, showing evacuation and rescue operations underway at the airport.
Four firefighters were reportedly injured in the incident and are said to be in critical condition.
Unverified footage also showed damage to the nose of the plane, with the aircraft’s front section lifted by several degrees as passengers deplaned.
Emergency responders were present at the scene. Around 100 passengers were on board the flight, and their conditions were being evaluated, the New York Post reported.
The US Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for all planes at the airport, according to a notice from the regulator. The agency indicated a high likelihood of an extension but did not provide further details.
