As tensions between Israel and Iran spill across West Asia, disrupting airspace and grounding flights, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu found herself stranded in Dubai. Amid reports of aerial interceptions and chaotic airport scenes, the two-time Olympic medallist reassured fans that she is safe, while her father confirmed that the Indian Embassy has stepped in to assist.
The crisis unfolded after coordinated strikes by Israel and the United States on Iranian military and nuclear-linked sites triggered retaliatory threats and widespread airspace closures across parts of West Asia. Several international air corridors were disrupted, leaving passengers stranded at major transit hubs, including Dubai.
Sindhu described the atmosphere as deeply unsettling. In a post on X, she wrote, “It's hard to process what's unfolding right now. Hearing the interceptions overhead and seeing how quickly everything has escalated is honestly terrifying. So many disturbing videos are coming to light, and this is sadly the reality of what is happening. Dubai is a city I deeply love, a place that has always felt safe and full of life, which makes this moment even harder to comprehend.”
She added, “To everyone who has been messaging and checking in, thank you; it truly means a lot. I am safe right now, stuck here in Dubai with my team, and we are doing okay as the situation around the war with Iran continues to evolve. The Airport is chaotic, with many families stranded and waiting, all of us just hoping we get past this soon. Moments like these remind you how fragile normal life really is. Praying for safety and peace for everyone affected,” she added.

The descent and despair of Imran Khan
Speaking to ANI over the phone, Sindhu’s father, PV Ramana, confirmed that he had spoken to his daughter in the early hours of Sunday and that assistance had been arranged.
"I spoke with my daughter early this morning around 3 am. She said the Indian Embassy is taking care of her, and they've put her up in a hotel," PV Sindhu's father told ANI.
The swift intervention by the Indian Embassy in Dubai provided relief amid uncertainty, as hundreds of passengers waited anxiously for clarity on flight resumptions.
The escalation has forced airlines to reroute or cancel multiple flights. Airports have set up help desks to assist stranded travellers. Major Indian carriers said they are closely monitoring the situation.
Both Air India and IndiGo stated they remain in coordination with aviation authorities and are assessing developments round-the-clock. Services will resume once safe flight corridors become available, the airlines said, urging passengers to stay updated through official channels.
The crisis deepened further after Iranian media Press TV reported that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in Israeli-US strikes, followed by retaliatory action by Iran in Gulf countries — developments that have heightened regional tensions and contributed to widespread airspace restrictions.
For Sindhu and many others caught in transit, the focus now remains on safety and a safe return home. As she put it, moments like these underscore “how fragile normal life really is.”
