CWG 2026: Neeraj Chopra Eyes Gold as Lovlina Borgohain Leads India's Biggest Boxing Medal Push

Neeraj Chopra's gold quest, India's biggest-ever boxing campaign, and a packed medal schedule...India heads into another action-packed day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 with some of its biggest stars in contention across athletics, boxing, judo and cycling.

All eyes will be on Chopra, who returns for the men's javelin throw final looking to add another Commonwealth gold to his glittering resume.

The former Olympic champion qualified comfortably with a best throw of 79.61 metres, but Friday's final promises to be a far tougher test. Standing in his way is a world-class field that includes defending Commonwealth champion Arshad Nadeem, reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott, former world champion Anderson Peters, and Sri Lanka's in-form Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage.

India will also have Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh in the 12-man final.

If athletics has Chopra, boxing has numbers firmly on India's side.

Ten Indian boxers have reached the semi-finals, guaranteeing the country at least 10 bronze medals—already India's best-ever boxing haul at a Commonwealth Games. Friday now offers them the chance to upgrade those medals by booking places in the finals.

Leading the charge is Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain in the women's 75kg category, alongside Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal.

India will also have medal hopes in athletics beyond Chopra.

Tejaswin Shankar resumes the decathlon in second place overall and will look to convert his strong start into a podium finish, while Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh Kumar T line up in the men's 400m hurdles final.

The day's schedule also marks the start of India's judo campaign, with Yamini Mourya, Harsh Singh, Shraddha Kadubal Chopade, Rohit Basir Majgul and Asmita Dey all stepping onto the mat.

Elsewhere, India's cyclists continue their push in the track events, while bowlers Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar face a crucial men's pairs sectional match as they build towards a potentially decisive showdown against England.

With Chopra chasing another major title and India's boxers one win away from multiple finals, Friday could prove to be one of the country's biggest days yet at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
