India has secured a Guinness World Records title for receiving the “Most pledges for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours,” with 250,946 valid submissions recorded between February 16 and 17. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The achievement was officially verified by Guinness World Records adjudicator Pravin Patel, in the presence of senior government officials and industry leaders.
The nationwide campaign was launched under the IndiaAI Mission in collaboration with Intel India, aiming to inspire citizens to commit to ethical, transparent, and accountable use of artificial intelligence. Through a dedicated portal, participants engaged with scenario-based questions focused on data privacy, misinformation, and responsible innovation. Those completing the pledge received digital badges and access to AI learning pathways.
Vaishnaw credits PM Narendra Modi
Addressing the media, Vaishnaw underlined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in shaping the campaign’s vision and outreach.
“It is his vision that inspired us to reach out to colleges, engage with faculty members, and encourage students to take this pledge to use AI as a tool for the good of society -- as a technology that improves our lives -- and to ensure it is used responsibly. A special round of applause to the 250,000 students who have taken this pledge. This is truly a proud day for the country. This is the direction in which the nation must move -- towards a future where AI is embraced with responsibility.”

The performance state at its peak
The minister noted that the overwhelming response far surpassed the original target of 5,000 pledges, reflecting growing awareness and enthusiasm, especially among young Indians, to engage with emerging technologies responsibly.
Officials emphasised that the campaign marks a major milestone in citizen-led digital responsibility. By placing ethics, inclusion, and public trust at the centre of AI adoption, India has positioned itself as a leading voice in the global conversation on responsible technology.
The initiative demonstrated how public participation can strengthen national digital frameworks and ensure that innovation remains aligned with societal values. With this record-setting achievement, India has reinforced its commitment to building a human-centric and trustworthy AI ecosystem for the future.
