A political earthquake has reshaped West Bengal as BJP stormed to power with a historic mandate, ending Mamata Banerjee’s dominance and triggering sharp reactions, celebrations, and pointed political messaging nationwide.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi framed the verdict as a vote for stability in turbulent times, linking domestic choices to global unrest. Addressing party workers, he said, "Another crucial aspect of these results is their timing. While people were voting in these states, a whole host of incidents were unfolding around the world. War sirens were blaring everywhere. An atmosphere of instability and chaos prevailed. Global economies appeared to be in crisis."

He emphasised that despite this backdrop, voters made a clear choice: "Yet, at that moment, the people of India were voting for stability."

Calling for a break from Bengal’s violent political past, PM Modi urged restraint and reconciliation. "Today, when the BJP has won, the focus should be on change, not revenge. The focus should be on the future, not fear. I appeal to the workers of all political parties: let's end this endless cycle of violence once and for all."

Highlighting a peaceful electoral process, he added, "For the first time, not a single innocent citizen lost their life in election violence... it was not the sound of guns, but the voice of the people that echoed."

“Historic Win” and a Decisive Political Shift

Across the BJP ranks, the result was hailed as transformative. Anurag Thakur described it as a watershed moment: "Heartfelt thanks to the people of Bengal. Mamata Banerjee came to power with the slogan of 'Ma-Mati-Manush', but in 15 years, it has turned into mafia rule. Fear has been defeated, trust has triumphed."

He credited the leadership at the top, stating, "The resounding victory that the BJP has achieved is a historic win... We have scored a double century in Bengal."

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw echoed the sentiment: "In West Bengal, trust has triumphed over fear. It is a victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership."

The scale of victory underlined the shift. From 77 seats in the previous election, BJP surged past 200, while the Trinamool Congress dropped sharply to around 80 seats.

Bengal’s Turning Point: Fall of a Stronghold

The defeat of Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur became the defining symbol of the election. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated her, declared: "Congratulations to everyone. This is the victory of the people of Bengal. It is the victory of Modi ji."

He underlined the significance of the contest: "This was very important. Defeating Mamata Banerjee was crucial. This is Mamata Banerjee's retirement from politics."

West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya called the outcome inevitable: "This was bound to happen, the Bhabanipur seat favours the BJP... No one trusts CM Mamata Banerjee today, and they have rejected her."

Leader of Opposition Adhikari also described the mandate as a "New Dawn for Sonar Bangla," signalling a broader ideological and political shift.

Sharp Attacks and Polarised Reactions

The verdict triggered strong reactions from BJP leaders targeting the outgoing regime. Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishwas Sarang said, "Didi has already torn down democracy. Now that the people have rejected her, she is making a mockery of their verdict. Didi, you must respect the mandate."

BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh struck a sharper tone, stating, "The mandate that PM Modi has received from the people of Bengal is a blessing... The people of the country are about to defeat this Jihadi mentality of the Congress party 100 more times."

Meanwhile, celebratory messaging also emerged from within the party. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared the result as "Khela Shesh (game over)" for the ruling TMC.

Beyond Bengal: A Wider Political Narrative

The Bengal result was part of a broader electoral churn across India. BJP not only secured a historic win in Bengal but also achieved a hat-trick in Assam and retained Puducherry.

Prime Minister Modi summed up the national sweep: "Today, I respectfully bow to the people of Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, and the people of Tamil Nadu and Keralam... Every BJP worker... has once again performed wonders. They have made the lotus bloom."

He also linked the moment to ideological roots, saying, "The soul of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee must be at so much peace today."

A New Chapter, But Contest Far From Over

While BJP celebrates a decisive mandate, the implications remain complex. The collapse of a 15-year TMC dominance marks a structural shift, yet opposition vote share and political tensions persist.

Modi outlined the party’s governance promises: "I want to assure every citizen of Bengal that BJP will work relentlessly for the better future of Bengal. Now, in Bengal, women will be safe, youths will get employment... And strict action will be taken against the infiltrators."

He concluded with a forward-looking note: "A new chapter has been added to Bengal's destiny... Bengal is free from fear and filled with the assurance of development."
