At least 24 people, including army servicemen, were killed and dozens more sustained injuries after a powerful bomb exploded near a railway track targeting a train in Pakistan's turbulent southwestern province of Balochistan on Sunday.
The attack occurred in the provincial capital of Quetta, leaving more than 50 people injured, according to a senior official quoted by AFP. Many army soldiers and their family members, who were traveling to Peshawar to celebrate the Eid holiday due to begin on Tuesday, were among the victims.
Reports indicate that the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express was passing a signal at Chaman Pattak in Quetta when a car packed with explosives hit one of its carriages, resulting in a huge blast. The incident took place in an area where security forces are usually stationed at all times.
The force of the explosion caused two of the train coaches to overturn and catch fire, while the train suffered partial damage.
Additionally, 10 vehicles parked in the area were damaged. The impact shattered the windows and glass panels of nearby buildings.

Visuals from the scene showed a mangled train carriage on its side as people clambered over the wreckage to find survivors and carried blood-soaked victims on stretchers away from a derailed car, while armed security forces stood guard.
Following the incident, an emergency was declared in government hospitals across the Quetta region, with doctors and medical staff summoned to handle the situation.
Railway authorities confirmed that the Jaffar Express was stopped at Quetta Railway Station after the blast as a precautionary measure.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, indicating it was a suicide blast.
"This morning, the Majeed Brigade, the fidayee (self-sacrificing) unit of the Baloch Liberation Army, targeted a train transporting personnel of the occupying forces from Quetta Cantt in a highly organised fidayee attack. The Baloch Liberation Army accepts full responsibility for this operation," the BLA said in a statement.
"Detailed information regarding the operation, along with the specific material and human casualties inflicted upon the enemy as a result of the attack, will be released shortly in an official statement to the media,” it added.
