US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Tehran, saying Iran has just 48 hours to either strike a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz “before all hell will rain down on them”.

"Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out-48 hours before all Hell will rain down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP," his post read.

The ultimatum builds on an earlier 10-day pause on strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, which Trump said was granted at Tehran’s request.

“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well," the post read.

Despite ongoing diplomatic signals, the renewed deadline underscores how fragile the negotiations remain, with the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil routes—at the centre of the standoff.

The War on Energy Security

Tehran has responded with defiance, claiming significant battlefield gains and signalling growing military confidence. Iranian state media reported that its air defence systems had shot down multiple US aircraft, though US officials confirmed only one F-15E fighter jet loss.

According to Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, its forces carried out “powerful, fast, and accurate” operations against enemy aircraft.

"On the thirty-fifth day of the war imposed by the American-Zionist enemies was a proud day for the country's air defence units. The steadfast and brave warriors of Islam were able to deliver powerful, fast, and accurate strikes against enemy fighters, helicopters, drones, and aircraft, shooting down a significant number of them. Friday should be called Black Friday and a disgrace for the American and Zionist enemies," the spokesperson said.

Iran has also signalled long-term intent to dominate its airspace.

"We had previously announced that we would show our abilities on the field. The enemy should know that we are equipped with modern air defence systems that have been built by the proud and knowledgeable youth of this country and are being unveiled one after another in the field. We will definitely achieve complete control of our country's skies and prove to the world the infernal enemy's inhumanity more than ever before," the spokesperson added.

An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander further reinforced the tone of resistance.

"The ultimate victor in the war is the Iranian nation. The expectation of the Iranian people from all officials is direct confrontation with the policies of America and the Zionist regime. Officials must stand alongside the people," the commander said.

Why Are Nuclear Sites and Regional Risks Raising Alarm?

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has sharply criticised Western responses to recent strikes on the Bushehr nuclear facility, calling out what he described as double standards.

"Remember the Western outrage about hostilities near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine? Israel-U.S. have bombed our Bushehr plant four times now. Radioactive fallout will end life in GCC capitals, not Tehran. Attacks on our petrochemicals also convey real objectives," he stated.

The Bushehr plant, Iran’s first commercial nuclear power station, has reportedly been struck multiple times, though key infrastructure remains intact. Iran has warned that any escalation involving nuclear facilities could have catastrophic regional consequences, particularly for Gulf countries.

Araghchi also reiterated Tehran’s stance on the broader conflict while leaving the door open for diplomacy.

"Iran's position is being misrepresented by U.S. media. We are deeply grateful to Pakistan for its efforts and have never refused to go to Islamabad. What we care about are the terms of a conclusive and lasting END to the illegal war that is imposed on us," he stated.
