England captain Harry Kane has revealed that he once shared a round of golf with US President Donald Trump, describing the invitation as a "surreal" experience and praising Trump's golfing skills. Kane made the remarks ahead of England's FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway, where the Three Lions will bid for a place in the last four.

What did Harry Kane say about playing golf with Donald Trump?

Speaking at his pre-match press conference in Miami on Friday, Kane confirmed that the game took place around 18 months ago after Trump invited him to play in Palm Beach, Florida.

"I played all right, to be honest," Kane told reporters in Miami, according to Reuters. "He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So yeah, when the president invites you somewhere..."

Reflecting on the occasion, Kane said the experience was unlike any other.

"It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him. His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I hope I can play as well as him when I'm his age. So yeah, unique experience, and I was just grateful he invited me down to play," Kane said.

The comments came only days after Trump publicly praised the England skipper following the Three Lions' dramatic 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, "Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!"

He later told reporters, "I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him, and I like him a lot. He's a good golfer. He's really great."

Can England continue their World Cup run against Norway?

Kane's attention will now shift back to football as England prepare to take on Norway in a high-stakes quarter-final at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida on Saturday (local time), with a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals on the line.

Thomas Tuchel's side arrive with momentum after edging Mexico 3-2 in the Round of 16 despite playing much of the second half with 10 men. Jude Bellingham struck twice, while Kane converted the match-winning penalty to send England into the last eight for the 11th time in World Cup history.

England have won three successive matches at the tournament, scoring at least two goals in each victory. However, their recent knockout history against European opponents offers Norway reason for optimism, with five of the Three Lions' last six World Cup eliminations coming against teams from Europe.

Norway have emerged as one of the tournament's surprise performers. Stale Solbakken's side shocked five-time champions Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16, thanks to Erling Haaland's brace, to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time.

Despite Norway's impressive campaign, England hold the historical advantage, leading the head-to-head record 7-2. Norway have also failed to score in their last four meetings with the Three Lions. Their most recent encounter came in a 2014 international friendly, when Wayne Rooney's penalty sealed a 1-0 victory for England.

The winners of Saturday's clash will face either defending champions Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals.
