Hull Hold Firm and VAR Cancels a Penalty

Hull defended in a compact shape and made it difficult for Arsenal to find room in the first half. When the hosts did get shots through, Tzolakis kept them out. Kai Havertz had one opening after Ødegaard played him through in the 40th minute, but Hull recovered to tackle him as he tried to cut back inside.

Havertz was involved again when Hull defender Nobel Mendy pulled his shirt in the box. Arsenal were initially awarded a penalty, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review found Havertz offside in the build-up. Hull went into the break level.

Madueke’s Shot Opens the Door

Arteta brought on Viktor Gyökeres and Mikel Merino in the second half and also sent on Eberechi Eze as Arsenal looked for a way through. The opening came when Madueke shot from the right and Tzolakis could only parry. Ødegaard reached the ball before Hull could clear it and converted.

Hull still had a chance to take a point and finished with seven attempts, two of them on target. Arsenal held their lead to the final whistle, banking all three points before Manchester City’s scheduled match against Nottingham Forest.
