Rajasthan Royals produced a disciplined, all-round performance to beat Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs in their IPL 2026 game in Lucknow on Wednesday, handing the hosts their fourth consecutive defeat of the season and their third loss in three home games.
It was not the high-scoring thrill-a-minute spectacle that many had anticipated, especially with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the lineup, but the contest was no less compelling for it.
Rajasthan successfully defended a modest total of 159, bowling Lucknow out for just 119 in 18 overs to seal a comfortable 40-run victory.
Rajasthan found themselves in early trouble after Mohammed Shami struck twice to put them on the back foot.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Riyan Parag also fell at crucial moments, further halting momentum.
Shami finished with two wickets, as did Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan, with the three seamers combining to restrict Rajasthan to 159 for six.
The innings was rescued largely by Ravindra Jadeja, who top-scored with an unbeaten 43 off 29 balls.
He forged an unbeaten 49-run stand with impact substitute Shubham Dubey, who entered in the 16th over, albeit leaving Rajasthan without an additional bowling option.

Mamata Banerjee faces her toughest battle
Together, they pushed the total to a figure that would ultimately prove 40 runs too many for Lucknow.
Chasing 160, Lucknow Super Giants never truly settled. The Rajasthan bowlers struck at regular intervals, preventing the hosts from building any sustained momentum.
Jofra Archer was the standout performer with figures of 3 for 20. He was ably supported by Nandre Burger and Brijesh Sharma, with the three pacemen accounting for eight wickets between them.
Nandre Burger expressed his satisfaction at returning to winning ways.
"I think it's good to be back on the winning side. It's a great performance and glad our batting clicked today. Trying to keep it as simple as possible. There is not too much that we are working on. As I said to you, captain takes the call, but I'm always available for the team whenever needed," he said.
Lucknow skipper Rishabh Pant was candid about his side's struggles.
"I think it is difficult to explain. Like it's definitely our batting is letting us down, but at the same time, we are disappointed as a team, as a group, but at the same time, you've got to keep finding ways," he said.
With this win, Rajasthan Royals returned to winning ways, while Lucknow Super Giants will need to find answers quickly as their campaign continues to unravel.
