Haaland became only the sixth player in FIFA World Cup history to score multiple goals in each of his first two appearances at the tournament.

The Norwegian joins an elite list featuring some of the greatest goalscorers the World Cup has ever seen.

The players to achieve the feat before Haaland were Argentina's Guillermo Stabile, who scored multiple goals in each of his first three World Cup matches in 1930, Hungary's Sandor Kocsis, who did so in his first four matches in 1954, France's Just Fontaine in 1958, Poland's Grzegorz Lato in 1974 and England captain Harry Kane in 2018.

By joining this exclusive club, Haaland has underlined just how extraordinary his start to international football's biggest stage has been.

Norway's New World Cup Record Holder

Haaland's four goals in two matches have also rewritten Norway's World Cup record books.

Before the 2026 tournament, Norway's World Cup scoring record was held by Kjetil Rekdal, who scored two goals across seven appearances.

Haaland has already doubled that tally in just two games, becoming Norway's all-time leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup.

The achievement is particularly notable given that this is the 25-year-old's first appearance at the tournament.

A Remarkable Record for Norway

The goals against Senegal added to Haaland's already astonishing record for the Norwegian national team.

He has now scored 59 goals in 52 appearances for Norway and has found the net in each of his last 12 competitive matches for his country.

His consistency has been equally impressive. Haaland has scored in 18 of Norway's last 21 competitive fixtures, highlighting the central role he plays in the team's success.

How Did Norway Beat Senegal?

Norway took the lead shortly before halftime when Marcus Holmgren Pedersen scored in the 43rd minute.

Haaland then took centre stage after the break, striking in the 48th minute to double Norway's advantage before adding another goal ten minutes later.

Senegal briefly threatened a comeback through Ismaila Sarr, who scored in the 53rd minute and again in stoppage time. However, Norway managed to hold on for a crucial 3-2 victory.

What Does the Result Mean?

The victory moved Norway to six points from two matches and secured their place in the Round of 32.

Despite their perfect record, Norway remain second in Group I behind France on goal difference.

For Senegal, the defeat leaves them without a point after two matches. Their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds now depend on defeating Iraq in their final group-stage fixture.

Why Haaland Is Emerging as One of the Faces of World Cup 2026

Few players have made a bigger impact at FIFA World Cup 2026 than Haaland.

With four goals in two games, multiple records already broken and Norway safely through to the knockout rounds, the striker's maiden World Cup campaign is quickly becoming one of the tournament's defining stories.

If his current scoring form continues, Haaland could not only challenge for the Golden Boot but also lead Norway on a deep run into the latter stages of the competition.
