Q. What interests you the most in the legal profession and why?
A. The dynamic nature of the legal profession captivates me the most. It’s an ever-evolving field that demands constant learning and adaptability. The opportunity to delve into intricate legal puzzles and devise effective strategies, especially in the realm of Commercial Litigation, fuels my passion. I find satisfaction in resolving complex legal issues, and this enthusiasm for problem-solving has been a driving force throughout my career. Law is a powerful instrument for change, and the ability to shape legal outcomes that have a tangible impact on clients and society at large is what keeps me deeply engaged.
Q. What are the strong areas of the legal profession which could be game-changers?
A. In the current legal landscape, areas such as Technology and Dispute Resolution hold transformative potential. Embracing technology, including artificial intelligence and blockchain, can significantly enhance efficiency in legal research, document review, and even dispute resolution processes. Moreover, an increased focus on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including arbitration and mediation, can expedite case resolutions, reducing the burden on the traditional litigation system. The integration of these elements has the potential to revolutionize how legal services are delivered and how disputes are settled.
Q. Litigations are usually slow-moving, which is a burden on the system as well as the petitioner. What can be done to rectify this woe?
A. Addressing the issue of slow-moving litigations requires a multi-faceted approach. Firstly, leveraging technology for e-filing, virtual hearings, and case management systems can streamline processes and reduce delays. Additionally, the implementation of specialized commercial courts and the promotion of alternative dispute resolution methods can expedite the resolution of cases. Furthermore, increasing judicial capacity through the appointment of more judges and facilitating continuous training programs can contribute to a more efficient legal system.
Q. What role do you play in sensitizing the young lawyers on professional ethics, etiquette, and the response that you have received?
A. Sensitizing young lawyers to professional ethics and etiquette is a responsibility I take seriously. As a mentor, I actively engage with junior colleagues through training sessions and informal interactions. It’s essential to instil a sense of integrity, empathy, and professionalism early in their careers. The response has been positive, with many expressing gratitude for the practical insights shared. Fostering a culture of ethical conduct and mutual respect not only strengthens the profession but also contributes to the personal and professional growth of young lawyers.
Q. What do awards and honesty mean to you?
A. Awards are a recognition of the dedication and hard work put into one’s professional journey. They serve as affirmations of the impact created and benchmarks for personal growth. However, the true measure of success lies in maintaining unwavering honesty and integrity. Honesty is the foundation upon which trust is built, and in a profession centred on advocacy and representation, it is non-negotiable. Awards, while gratifying, are meaningful only when accompanied by the knowledge that they are a result of ethical and honest contributions to the legal field.

Q. As a Woman, has it been a challenge in the professional journey so far?
A. Undoubtedly, being a woman in a traditionally male-dominated profession poses its challenges. However, I’ve been fortunate in my legal career, facing no gender biases. Joining a firm emphasizing meritocracy and equal opportunities has been pivotal. I’ve never felt hindered due to my gender; instead, I’ve thrived in an inclusive environment valuing competence over gender. My journey has been enriched by diverse perspectives, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. While gender challenges persist elsewhere, my experience reflects the positive impact of an inclusive workplace, promoting equality. I credit the progressive ethos of my organizations for ensuring a truly equitable professional journey, where success is defined by merit, not gender.
Q. Your Viewpoint on Success
A. Success, to me, is a holistic concept that extends beyond professional achievements. It involves achieving personal fulfilment, making a positive impact on others, and contributing to the betterment of society. While professional accomplishments are undoubtedly significant, success is incomplete without a sense of purpose and the ability to inspire positive change. It’s about finding a balance between professional excellence and personal well-being. Following the wisdom of my late mentor, Mr. Hira Lal Sibal, I believe success in law stems from an unyielding commitment to work. His advice, “never say no unless conflicted,” reflects the evolving nature of the legal landscape – each case offering new insights into familiar laws. I embrace the notion that persistence is key; every brief is an opportunity to learn.
Q. Wise Words for the New Comers
A. For aspiring legal professionals, I would emphasize the importance of continuous learning and adaptability. The legal field is dynamic, and success is often intertwined with the ability to evolve with the changing landscape. Seek mentorship, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and never compromise on ethical standards. Establish a clear goal, channel your focus, and pursue it with unwavering dedication. In the legal realm, resist the urge to compare your journey with others. Instead, embrace your unique path. Remember that your impact extends beyond legal matters; you have the power to shape the future and contribute to a more just and equitable society.
Q. What do you think about women’s health in today’s time?
A. In the intricate dance between professional commitments and domestic responsibilities, the tendency to neglect one’s well-being is all too common. Amidst the relentless pace of modern life, it is paramount to advocate for a momentary pause, urging individuals, particularly women, to conscientiously attend to their physical and mental health. In today’s fast-paced society, the demands on women are manifold, often eclipsing the importance of self-care. It is an essential reminder that our bodies and minds require nurturing. Taking a deliberate pause from the perpetual juggle of roles allows for introspection and rejuvenation. The intricate balance of professional ambitions and familial responsibilities should not come at the cost of personal health. Allocating time for exercise, mindfulness, and moments of relaxation is an investment in resilience and long-term well-being. In a world where the lines between work and home blur, recognizing the significance of self-care is an empowering act. By prioritizing self-care, we fortify ourselves, ensuring that amidst the chaos of daily life, we remain robust, both physically and mentally. Remember, in the pursuit of success, your well-being is non-negotiable.
Q. Message on Women’s Day
A. As we celebrate Women’s Day, my message resonates with the strength and resilience inherent in every woman. It’s a day to acknowledge not just the accomplishments, but also the indomitable spirit that propels us forward. In the legal profession, where challenges may be aplenty, women continue to carve a space for themselves, leaving an indelible mark. To my fellow women in the legal fraternity, remember, your voice holds immense power. Use it to champion justice, equality, and the rights of those who need advocacy. Let’s amplify each other’s successes, creating a network of support and empowerment. On this Women’s Day, let’s also reflect on the broader narrative of gender equality. Beyond professional spheres, women play pivotal roles at home and in society.
