News agency ANI has reported that Pakistani actors attempted to target the Golden Temple, one of the holiest sites in Sikhism, located in Amritsar, Punjab. The plot, according to ANI’s sources within the security establishment, was intercepted and neutralised before it could be carried out.
The alleged plan is said to have involved coordination between operatives across the border and local contacts recruited or radicalised through digital platforms. While full details remain classified, preliminary reports suggest that intelligence inputs led to a high-alert status in the region last week, prompting security forces to tighten surveillance around major religious and cultural landmarks.
Indian Army foils Pakistan’s Drone attack on Golden Temple with precision
The Golden Temple attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists daily, making it a symbolic and high-profile site. Officials have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made, but sources cited by ANI claimed that multiple individuals are under investigation. India used several of its Air Defence systems, including AKASH missile system, L-70 Air Defence Guns and so on to save the Golden Temple in Amritsar and other cities of Punjab from Pakistani missile and drone attacks.
While the Ministry of Home Affairs has yet to issue an official statement, senior officials have reportedly been briefed on what they described as a “serious but contained” threat. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann called the alleged plot “deeply disturbing” and said state authorities are fully cooperating with central agencies to “ensure the safety of all religious sites and the people of Punjab.”
Security around the Golden Temple and other major sites in Punjab remains heightened. More information is expected following an internal review by the National Investigation Agency and other law enforcement bodies.
