Defence Minister Rajnath singh today told an all party meeting that Operation Sindoor — a mission carried out by the armed forces to avenge the jehadi attack at Pahalgam — was still on and that it has already neutralised over 100 terrorists.
“In the operation, precise strikes were carried out on nine terrorist sanctuaries inside Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. We have information that over 100 terrorists have been killed,” the minister said.
At the 90-minute meeting, attended by senior leaders of the ruling coalition as well as Opposition, Singh conveyed the government’s resolve to retaliate forcefully in the event of any fresh provocation from Pakistan. “We do not wish to escalate the situation. But if Pakistan indulges in any misadventure, we will retaliate with full force,” the minister said.
The meeting was chaired by Singh, who briefed everyone about Operation Sindoor and all leaders gave their suggestions. “All the leaders have shown maturity at a time when we are all working together. Everyone has hailed and congratulated the armed forces for Operation Sindoor, and said that we will support the government and armed forces. We have received a few suggestions as well… The defence minister said we don’t form the government just to rule,” Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters.
Congress chief and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said all parties backed the government at these critical times in whatever steps it was taking in India’s interests. He also said certain confidential information cannot be shared outside.
“We gave full support, and what Kharge ji said is right — there are certain things that shouldn’t be discussed. Everyone simply gave their support,” Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said.
