In a massive crackdown following the deadliest terrorist attack on Indian civilians since 2008, security forces have demolished the homes of 11 men identified as responsible for the massacre of 28 people in Pahalgam on 22 April. Intelligence agencies have also identified 14 local Kashmiris linked to Pakistan-based jihadi groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HM) for providing support to those who carried out the cowardly attacks on tourists.
The demolitions — carried out using improvised explosive devices and bulldozers — are part of intensified security measures aimed at dismantling the terror infrastructure in the region, including sleeper cells that facilitate cross-border attacks. Operations took place across districts, including Bandipora, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag, and others. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has officially assumed control of the Pahalgam massacre investigation, has pledged to leave no stone unturned in ensuring all perpetrators and their associates are brought to justice.
Earlier, the homes of Adil Hussain Thoker in Bijbehara and Asif Sheikh in Tral were demolished by security forces, using improvised explosive devices and bulldozers. Authorities had also circulated sketches of suspected attackers and announced a reward of ?20 lakh for information leading to their capture.
