Nation Mourns DY Patil: PM Modi Hails Educationist's Legacy of Service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday led the nation in paying tribute to Padma Shri Dr D Y Patil, the renowned educationist, philanthropist and former Governor of Bihar, Tripura and West Bengal, whose passing marks the end of a remarkable public life dedicated to education and social service.

Remembered as the architect of one of India's largest private education networks, Dr Patil leaves behind a legacy that has shaped the lives of lakhs of students through institutions spanning medicine, engineering, management and healthcare.

In a message on X, Prime Minister Modi hailed Dr Patil's lifelong commitment to philanthropy and public welfare.

"Shri DY Patil Ji was at the forefront of serving society through philanthropy and education in particular. He always worked to improve the lives of others, especially the poor. Pained by his demise."

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Dr Patil as a distinguished educationist whose lifelong dedication to education and nation-building would be remembered for generations.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid tribute to his enduring contributions to public service, governance and education, while Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recalled Dr Patil's inspiring journey from humble beginnings to holding some of the country's highest constitutional offices.

Goyal said Dr Patil's contributions to education and healthcare had left an indelible mark on the nation and would continue to inspire future generations.

Over the decades, Dr Patil emerged as one of India's most influential educationists, building the D Y Patil Group into a leading network of universities, medical colleges and educational institutions. He also served as Governor of Tripura, Bihar and West Bengal, combining public service with an enduring commitment to expanding access to quality education.

With tributes pouring in from across the political spectrum, Dr D Y Patil is being remembered not only for the institutions he built, but for the millions of lives they helped shape.
