Israeli Airstrikes Hit Tehran Infrastructure; US Strike Destroys Iran’s Turbine Engine Production Plant

The Israeli Defence Forces on Monday launched a fresh wave of strikes on targets in Iran, according to a report by the Times of Israel, as the conflict in West Asia entered its fourth week.

In a statement, the IDF said, "IDF launches a wave of extensive strikes targeting infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime in Tehran".

It added earlier that several security bodies in Iran were targeted in a wide-scale operation.

These included a military base used for training soldiers and storing missile systems intended to target aircraft, a weapons production and storage facility of the Ministry of Defence, a weapons production site of the IRGC's Air Force, the headquarters of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence, and the emergency headquarters of the Internal Security Forces.

In Israel, no injuries were reported after damage was caused at several locations in central Israel following Iran's latest ballistic missile attack involving cluster munitions.

The Times of Israel reported that on Sunday, fifteen people were injured when an Iranian ballistic missile dispersed cluster munitions over central Israel, damaging homes and roads.

In Jaffa, a projectile struck a residential building, while in Petah Tikva, an impact triggered a fire in a residential area, though no serious injuries were reported.

The ongoing hostilities have also impacted neighbouring countries. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defence said it detected the launch of two ballistic missiles towards Riyadh, intercepting one while the other landed in an uninhabited area.

It also reported the interception and destruction of a drone in the eastern region.

In the United Arab Emirates, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said an Indian national suffered minor injuries from falling debris after air defence systems intercepted a ballistic missile targeting the capital.

The incident took place in the Al Shawamekh area of Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, the United States carried out a strike on Iran's Qom Turbine Engine Production Plant, which produced gas turbine engines for attack drones and aircraft components.

The US Central Command said the facility had been destroyed and shared images showing the extent of the damage.

In a post on X, it said, "The Qom Turbine Engine Production Plant produced gas turbine engines for attack drones and aircraft components used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps."

"The photo dated on March 6, 2026, shows the plant before U.S. airstrikes, and the second photo shows the plant three days later, after a devastating attack from U.S. forces," the CENTCOM added.

The conflict, which began following the assassination of 86-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has intensified regional tensions.

Amid the escalation, French President Emmanuel Macron held talks on Monday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In a post on X, Macron said, "I have just held a conversation with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

He also emphasised the need to ease tensions and ensure stability in key maritime routes.

"In the face of the risk of escalation spiralling out of control, it has become more necessary than ever for all warring parties to agree to a temporary halt to attacks on energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, and for Iran to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," he said.

Calling for restraint, Macron said, "The current phase calls for responsibility and restraint, in order to create the conditions for resuming dialogue, which alone can guarantee peace and security for all."

"At this critical juncture, the G7 and the Gulf Cooperation Council should strengthen their coordination. France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are working together in this direction," the French President added.
