Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a strongly worded warning to the United States after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reportedly suggested that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was "marked for death." Araghchi said Washington was responsible for restraining Israel under the terms of a recent agreement aimed at ending hostilities in West Asia and warned of a forceful Iranian response to any threat against the country's leadership.
In a post on X, Araghchi accused the United States of being responsible for keeping Israel in check under the terms of the 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) that helped end recent hostilities in the region.
"The terms of the Islamabad MoU are crystal clear and public for all to see. POTUS has committed the U.S. to muzzling its pets in Tel Aviv. If they ignore their master, Iran will school them. Any threat against our People and Leadership will receive Immediate Powerful Response," Araghchi said in the post while sharing the text of Katz's remarks.
The Iranian foreign minister's comments marked one of Tehran's sharpest public responses since the recent ceasefire arrangements and underscored growing tensions over statements directed at Iran's top leadership.

Araghchi's warning came after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reportedly referred to Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei on Monday and said he was "marked for death."
Katz also criticised Iran's approach to ongoing negotiations, describing the Iranians as "good merchants" seeking to secure concessions during diplomatic talks.
"If they do it through an agreement, all the better," Katz said, while reiterating that Israel would not permit Iran to develop nuclear weapons.
The remarks have added to tensions between the two regional rivals despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider escalation.
Amid the war of words, indirect contacts between the United States and Iran are continuing through mediators.
According to CNN, citing a diplomatic source familiar with the discussions, US and Iranian officials are holding indirect, lower-level technical talks in Doha through Qatari and Pakistani mediators.
The source told CNN that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, although not directly participating in the negotiations, met Qatar's Prime Minister in Doha on Tuesday to help prepare the ground for Wednesday's indirect discussions.
The talks are part of broader diplomatic efforts to maintain the ceasefire framework and address outstanding issues between Washington and Tehran.
