Donald Trump has announced that he will not attend the wedding of his son, Donald Trump Jr., citing pressing government responsibilities and escalating international tensions.
Trump Jr. is set to marry Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson in what is expected to be a private ceremony in the Bahamas attended by close family and friends.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained that he had chosen to remain in Washington because of ongoing geopolitical developments.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The decision is unusual given Trump’s close public relationship with his children and the high-profile nature of family events within the Trump family.
Trump indicated that the current geopolitical environment, particularly developments involving Iran, played a significant role in his decision to stay in Washington.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Trump reportedly described the timing of the wedding as “not good timing” because of “a thing called Iran and other things.”
The comments come amid growing tensions in West Asia and renewed speculation about possible US military action involving Iran. According to reports cited by Politico, Trump had considered launching strikes on Iran earlier in the week but paused the move after allies in the Middle East encouraged further negotiations.

Later, Trump reportedly told reporters that the next strike could come “maybe Friday or Saturday” or “early next week.”
Trump is now expected to return to the White House on Friday evening after delivering a speech in New York. Earlier plans had reportedly included spending the weekend at his golf club in New Jersey before returning to Washington on Sunday.
The broader geopolitical uncertainty surrounding Trump’s decision has also fuelled attention on Washington’s foreign policy posture toward Iran and Cuba.
According to Politico, discussions inside Washington have increasingly focused on possible military options involving Cuba, with some officials reportedly believing that military strikes remain under consideration.
At the same time, tensions involving Iran continue to dominate US foreign policy discussions, especially after recent developments in the Middle East raised fears of broader regional instability.
Trump’s remarks about remaining at the White House during an “important period of time” have therefore drawn attention not only because he is missing a major family event, but also because they coincide with heightened speculation about possible US military or diplomatic moves abroad.
The wedding itself is expected to remain a relatively intimate affair in the Bahamas, away from the larger political spotlight surrounding the Trump administration and ongoing global developments.
